Sweet Retreat is a private estate featuring a main residence and guest cabins situated along the shoreline of the St. Mary’s River.  The estate is reserved exclusively for private group bookings and curated experiences. Sweet Retreat is not operated as a traditional hotel and is designed to provide a personalized and tranquil retreat environment.

Check-in: 4:00 PM

Check-out: 11:00 AM

Early check-in or late check-out requests may be accommodated when available but must be approved in advance.

Weekend bookings require a 3-night minimum stay.

Peak season reservations from May 15 through October 15 require a 5-night minimum stay.

Holiday experiences including Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s require a 5-night minimum stay and may include curated seasonal programming.

A reservation is confirmed only when:

• the required deposit has been received
• Sweet Retreat provides written booking confirmation

All booking requests, changes, and confirmations must be documented in writing.

A 50% deposit is required to secure a reservation.

The remaining balance is due 60 days prior to arrival.

Reservations made within 60 days of arrival require full payment at the time of booking.

Holiday reservations may require earlier final payment deadlines.

Cancellations must be submitted in writing.

Cancellations received more than 60 days prior to arrival may be eligible for a refund of payments received, less any non-recoverable planning, administrative, or third-party costs already incurred.

Cancellations received within 60 days of arrival are non-refundable.

Weather Conditions

Sweet Retreat operates year-round in Northern Michigan where seasonal weather conditions, including snow, wind, rain, or other natural weather events, may occur.

Normal or forecasted seasonal weather conditions — including snowfall or winter travel conditions — do not constitute grounds for a full cancellation refund.

In circumstances where severe weather materially prevents safe access to the island or the property becomes inaccessible due to extraordinary conditions, Sweet Retreat management may, at its sole discretion:

• offer alternative stay dates
• issue a partial credit toward a future stay
• provide a partial refund not to exceed 20% of the reservation value

Any such accommodation is determined solely by management based on the specific circumstances.

Guests are strongly encouraged to purchase travel insurance to protect against weather-related travel disruptions.

Guests are responsible for the conduct of their group, invitees, and vendors while on the property.

Children must be supervised at all times.

Guests agree to respect the estate, surrounding nature, and neighboring community during their stay. 

Guests are responsible for monitoring ferry schedules and travel conditions when planning arrival and departure from Sugar Island.

Guests are responsible for any damage caused to the property, furnishings, grounds, or equipment during their stay.

A security deposit may be required depending on the nature of the reservation.

Additional cleaning, repairs, or replacement costs may be charged if necessary.

Weddings, retreats, and special events must be approved and documented as part of the reservation.

Outside vendors may be permitted with prior approval.

Guests are responsible for the conduct of all vendors and attendees associated with their event.

Sweet Retreat is a non-smoking property indoors.

Smoking may be permitted only in designated outdoor areas.

Pets may be permitted with prior written approval.

Additional cleaning policies may apply.

Guests acknowledge that the use of the estate, waterfront areas, dock, firepit, and outdoor spaces is at their own risk.

Sweet Retreat is not responsible for accidents, injuries, or loss of personal belongings during a guest's stay.

Sweet Retreat shall not be held liable for cancellations or disruptions caused by events beyond reasonable control, including but not limited to severe weather, natural disasters, government restrictions, or travel disruptions.

In such cases, alternative dates or credits may be offered when possible.
