Sugar Island is accessible by vehicle ferry from Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan. Guests are responsible for reviewing ferry schedules and allowing adequate time for island transportation when planning arrival and departure. Ferry schedules, delays, closures or interruptions are outside the control of Sugar Island Marina & Resort.
Northern Michigan weather can change quickly and may include snow, ice, wind, rain, storms and other seasonal conditions. Normal seasonal weather does not constitute grounds for cancellation or refund unless otherwise provided in the applicable reservation agreement. If extraordinary conditions make the property inaccessible or materially affect a reservation, management will evaluate the circumstances and available options on a case-by-case basis.
Guests are responsible for the conduct of everyone included in or visiting under their reservation.
Children must be supervised by a responsible adult at all times, particularly near the shoreline, docks, marina, fire features and other outdoor areas. Guests are expected to respect the property, other guests, neighboring properties and the natural environment of Sugar Island.
Sugar Island Marina & Resort is an active waterfront property. Use of docks, shoreline areas, boats, watercraft and waterfront recreational areas involves inherent risks. Children must be supervised at all times near the water. Guests using personal boats or watercraft are responsible for complying with applicable licensing, registration, safety and boating requirements. Dock and marina availability may be affected by weather, water levels, maintenance and seasonal conditions.
The resort operates with a private septic system. ONLY single ply toilet paper and human waste may be flushed. Do not flush wipes of any kind—including products labeled “flushable”—paper towels, feminine hygiene products, diapers, grease, food, sanitary products or other foreign materials.
Guests may be held financially responsible for damage, service calls, remediation or repairs resulting from prohibited materials being introduced into the septic system.
Smoking and vaping are prohibited inside all accommodations and indoor resort facilities. Smoking is permitted only in designated outdoor areas. Additional cleaning or remediation charges may apply for violations.
Alcohol consumption must comply with applicable laws and resort policies. Outside alcohol may be restricted in certain resort, event, food-service or licensed areas. Specific alcohol policies applicable to an accommodation, event or resort amenity will be communicated when appropriate. This keeps your website flexible as the restaurant/convenience-store/public-facing operation develops instead of publishing a blanket rule now that may conflict with future licensing.
Pet policies vary by accommodation. Pets require prior approval where applicable, and pet fees, restrictions and cleaning requirements may apply. Guests are responsible for cleaning up after approved pets and for any damage or excessive cleaning resulting from their stay. Service animals will be accommodated as required by applicable law.
Guests are responsible for damage to accommodations, furnishings, equipment, grounds or resort property caused by themselves, members of their party, visitors or approved vendors. A security deposit or payment method for incidentals may be required. Additional cleaning, repair, replacement or remediation costs may be charged when necessary.
Weddings, celebrations, reunions, retreats and other organized gatherings require prior approval.
Event terms, capacity, vendors, food and beverage requirements, deposits, insurance requirements and other conditions may vary based upon the nature of the gathering. Booking overnight accommodations does not automatically authorize an event or gathering.
Certain areas and future amenities at Sugar Island Marina & Resort may be available to visitors who are not overnight guests. Public access does not include access to private guest accommodations or guest-designated areas. Availability, operating hours and access policies for public amenities may vary.
For the safety and security of guests, visitors and property, exterior and common areas may be monitored by security cameras. Cameras are not located inside bedrooms, bathrooms or other areas where guests have a reasonable expectation of privacy.
Sugar Island occasionally provides opportunities to experience extraordinary natural phenomena, including the Northern Lights. However, weather, wildlife, Northern Lights, water conditions and other natural occurrences cannot be predicted or guaranteed.
Sugar Island Marina & Resort is undergoing a phased reimagining. Conceptual renderings and descriptions of future accommodations, marina improvements, recreational facilities, food and beverage services and other planned amenities represent the current vision for the resort.
Future amenities should not be considered available unless specifically identified as open and operational at the time of your reservation.
We ask every guest and visitor to help us preserve the beauty and tranquility of Sugar Island. Please respect wildlife, vegetation, waterways, neighboring properties and designated quiet hours, and dispose of waste responsibly.
Leave the island as beautiful as you found it.
