Sugar Island Marina & Resort is located on Sugar Island in Michigan's Upper Peninsula, along the St. Marys River near Sault Ste. Marie. The waterfront setting offers a peaceful island experience while remaining accessible to the mainland by ferry.
Sugar Island is accessible by vehicle ferry from Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan. Guests drive their vehicle onto the ferry and continue to the resort after arriving on the island.

We recommend having a vehicle during your stay. Sugar Island is a natural, rural destination, and having your own transportation makes it easier to explore the island and travel to and from the mainland.

Our long-term vision is to create a destination that can be enjoyed throughout the seasons. Availability of accommodations, activities and amenities may vary by season, weather conditions and development phase.
Minimum-stay requirements may vary depending upon the accommodation, season, holiday period and reservation dates. Current requirements will be provided during the booking process.
I prefer this over locking the website into the old 3-night/5-night rules. We can control those through your actual booking channels as the business evolves.
Yes. Waterfront and dock access are part of the Sugar Island experience. Guests bringing a boat should contact us before arrival so we can confirm current dock availability and any applicable arrangements.
Waterfront recreation opportunities may be available seasonally. Available activities, equipment and rental options will be identified when booking or during your stay.
Yes. The resort's waterfront setting provides access to the St. Marys River, making fishing one of the natural experiences guests can enjoy during their stay. Guests are responsible for complying with applicable Michigan fishing license requirements and regulations.
The property is waterfront, but there is not currently a traditional swimming beach. A landscaped waterfront leisure area is included in our future resort vision. Until completed, guests should rely on the description and photographs provided for their specific stay rather than conceptual renderings.

A glass-enclosed pool and hot tub are part of the future vision for Sugar Island Marina & Resort. These amenities will be announced when completed and available for use.
Select future amenities are being planned to serve both overnight resort guests and visitors to Sugar Island. The Island Market, expanded marina services, food and refreshments, waterfront recreation and gathering spaces are part of the resort's future development vision and will be announced individually as they become available.
Private gatherings and celebrations may be considered based on the size of the group, accommodations required, property availability and the nature of the event. Please contact us directly before making lodging reservations for an event or gathering.
Yes. Families are welcome. Because this is an active waterfront property, children must be supervised by a responsible adult at all times, particularly around docks, shoreline areas and other waterfront spaces.
Pet policies vary by accommodation. Prior approval may be required, and applicable pet fees and property-specific restrictions will be provided before booking.
Yes. Parking is available on the property. Parking arrangements may vary by accommodation and group size.
The Northern Lights can sometimes be visible from Sugar Island, and some of the photographs on our website were captured right here at the property. However, the Aurora Borealis is a natural phenomenon and cannot be predicted or guaranteed for any stay.
Sugar Island offers a quieter and more natural environment than a conventional resort destination. Guests should plan for ferry transportation, changing weather conditions, wildlife, insects and the rhythms of island life. For us, that's part of what makes staying here special.
